But it is important that Google remains as the core group that determines roadmap and consistency about how things are expose and how the exposed things behave.

		<description>Agree with your argument that carrier variants will go away (Sprint was notorious in creating a slight variation in J2ME). However, I cannot see handset manufacturers following a Wintel model. They will want to differentiate their hardware with things like proximity sensors, compass, gyro and some of these will affect UX and UI.

So how will Google keep up with these variants?</description>
