Ripping mobility from the clutches of telecom
GetJar
There’s a writeup of GetJar at GigaOm today, and I just wanted to throw in a bit more color. I got a chance to meet up with Ilja and Bill Scott a few weeks ago to chat for a while. And I was really impressed by the amount of stuff they have going on, and in a very much “heads down whole bunch of geeks cranking on great stuff” fashion.
Not only do they have the application portal and community site (which I’ve heard fantastic things about from a few different app provides here in the Bay Area) but they also have a mobile analytics site from which they publish aggregate mobile stats. There’s some fantastic info in there (take for example Nokia market share info in South America), very similar to the AdMob metrics reports. Right now they pull a large portion of their stats from GetJar itself, but as they build out users of the mobile analytics tools the sources of info for the metrics become more diverse.
Awesome stuff! I was really happy when I heard they had gotten some money to keep building out what they’re doing, and what I’ve heard about since has really reinforced my opinion that they’re going to do great things for the mobile ecosystem. Great job Ilja and team, there are lots of us rooting for you!
