My /scratchbox/etc/resolv.conf actually does seem to be setup correctly (has the same settings as /etc/resolv.conf at least). I need to read up a bit on scratchbox in general and find out how this stuff is sandboxed away and how to test out networking in a simple way.

regarding you networking problems in scratchbox, there are two known problems the first being with nsswitch:

http://lists.scratchbox.org/pipermail/scratchbox-users/2007-March/000906.html

the other with /etc/resolve.conf, which is by default set to 127.0.0.1, and needs to be switched over to your actual dns server(s).
