Lol - I have no idea what it is about pizza websites but they are just plain terrible.

It's not just Pizza Hut but Dominos has you log in twice to 2 seperate web pages (i have no idea either), the ridiculous part is that I just found out that my local Domino's actually doesn't have any email/web terminal access instore so what is happening is the orders are being taken and then phoned to the store (i found out when they screwed up the orders and I called to complain but I couldn't understand why the guy was saying thats the way it was phoned to us when I was complaining it was a web order until he told me how it actually worked).

So I guess the question is .....is there not enough profitability in dough, pasta sauce and meat to justify a 'real' web application.

Cheers,
Dean

Good stuff Miker (as usual).

A very good summary for the folks at Pizza Hut to take note. I think their hearts are at the right place, but the execution part is pretty clunky at best.

i.e. sign up an ID on the Web stopped me right in the track to try this out. Big turn off.

They need to make the service "traction free".

That's what I'm pointing out, that much of the information needed to build a mobile website isn't available in one place or commonly understood. But here are some overall good places for info if you have questions you need to get answered:

http://dev.mobi/
http://thewirelessfaq.com/
http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/wmlprogramming/
http://www.w3.org/Mobile/planet

Since you say building mobile pages isn't just using simpler HTML, and you build a lot of pages automatically, do you have any ideas about what you would consider good mobile web development? pointers?
Thanks!

Wow Mike, that's a good one. www.pizzahut.com doesn't work on my Motorola i855 with Openwave either, "infinite redirect loop".

I tried it on some emulators, Openwave 4 and 7, Motorola's ADK and the Nokia NMIT. The only one that could load the site was Openwave 7. What did they test this thing on?

Comparing the hype with the reality of this "Total Mobile Access" is funny but it's also sad to see how badly a major corporation could screw up a mobile web site.
