It downloaded the software without ant problems.
While installing it hangs after 15%
Unable to get it to work.
Any suggestions

Failure to restore backup data does seem to be an unfortunately common problem.

Nokia's newly released N96 ships with S60 3rd edition - feature pack 2 supporting Firmware Over The Air (FOTA) which uses the data connection of your phone to download software updates. Perhaps this may solve some problems?

Same happened to me. Boy is it annoying. You allow 2 hours to update the firmware and then you mess around for hours with the restore option. I tried it about 5 times, using older versions. The first time, the restore seemed to go perfectly, but there were no contacts, no messages.
So I tried with the next to last backup and that just stopped working with the CPU at 100%.
So I tried it again leaving it go for 25 minutes and it also didn't work.

I like that Nokia produce new versions of their software, but why do they have to produce such cruddy backup software. It makes software updating practically unusable.

Hi Mike,

did the same but after restore there was nothing in the calendar! And I really need that! But as you are saying "after years and years or having my hopes and dreams dashed by mobile devices it’s no longer possible to disappoint me": I restored the calendar (and others) from that very same N95 backup to my old 6630 instead and put the N95 back to its box...

Sad but true.

Cheers
