Opera Mini Bookmarklets

This is amazing, Opera Mini supports bookmarklets. Seriously, I’m blown away. I was hoping that the Nokia Open Source browser would have some way to perform simple user extension, but that hasn’t been the case as far as I can tell. I haven’t been successful in getting bookmarklets to work there at least, and my searches turn up nothing. The Mozilla folks are all over widgets and toolbar extensions for Minimo, but a S60 port seems to be quite a ways off. I’ve resorted to some pretty drastic acrobatics to try to get my mobile browser to give me some basic additional functions.

Who would have expected this to come out of what is effectively a thin client based browser implementation? Not me, that’s for sure. I used to use Opera Mini frequently even though I have a “full browser” (Nokia insists that the OS browser isn’t a “mobile browser” but a real full implementation) native on my E61. This cements it however, I’m using Opera Mini all the time.

The bookmarklets at o.yeswap.com are a great resource to get things kicked off. And the technique of appending the bookmarklet text to the url so you can bookmark the page and then remove the domain, nice. That should really help the relatively uninitiated at least get started. An iteration or two on the part of Opera to help reinforce the behavior and some clever bookmarkletting on the part of the community and I can see some really interesting stuff happening.

  1. IE Mobile supports bookmarklets too.

I’ve always been surprised that more sites don’t take advantage of that.

    html2image – Bookmarklet
    - Alpha Version –

uses the html2image api by immediatenet.com

Save (or Print to bluetooth printer) directly from opera mini!!!

    Full Descritption:
Transforms (almost) every webpage into jpg-images, (with hyperlinks), downloadable with the “save image” option…

Saves Fullscreen pages if your opera mini is set to desktop mode

    Saves mobile pages too :-)

-Big pages are segmented into several jpg’s
-gives good results on 95/100 pages

-> Works with all javascript capable browsers: built in browsers, OPERA MINI, Iphone, Ipod, some Android browsers…

    For opera mini users:

    1. open the following link with opera mini
    2. You will get an error message that the page does not exist
    3. Add the “wrong” page to bookmarks
    4. Go to your bookmarks and click on edit
    5. remove everything until ‘javascript’ (the code should now look like the code for copy-paste)

    http://www.remove-this-text-until-the-questonmark.com?javascript:window.location.href=“http://immediatenet.com/t/html2image1?user=”+escape(window.location.href)

For all other users which can copy this text and paste it into bookmarks:

    javascript:window.location.href=”http://immediatenet.com/t/html2image1?user=”+escape(window.location.href)

    How to use it? ->
-go to the page you want to save as image
    -execute this bookmark
-the page will reload as image
-select the image(s) with “save image” and download
–> share the images via bluetooth, mms, mail…
–> print the page if your phone has bluetooth print protocol and the printer is bluetooth capable (the hp photosmarts 33xx and most newer models accept compatible bluetooth dongles , some epsons, canons…)

(you can also send it to some instant photo printers in shops if you need to print something urgently)
