On The Road Again

I’m off to Defcon 14 in Vegas today. It’s been a whirlwind of activity getting things pulled together at AdMob, always more stuff to do than people to do it. Startup life at its finest! Including that rapidly expanding group of users and traffic that gives you a warm fuzzy feeling when you look at the graphs.

So of course I’ve had no time at all to do things like read news. And I’m sitting here in the airport with my e61. So I figure I’ll connect to the TMobile access point and download a few podcasts for the plane. I try to connect to the access point with the browser and bing!, spontaneous reboot. Not an issue, I’m getting used to this. So I wait for it to reboot and try again, assuming it’s just bad state or a bug with memory handling and a reboot will take care of it. But after it reboots I try to connect again, and AGAIN it reboots right away. Interesting, at this point I’m already pulling out my laptop instead, but I try to connect again for the hell of it, and sure thing, instant reboot. Nice, very very nice.

So instead I decide to write this blog post about the experience. I haven’t booted my lappy yet, so I try writing up a post using the cellular connection. The page comes up on problem, but there’s a bug with the text box handling on the built in browser. Once you write past the end of the screen in a text box, the browser doesn’t follow your input location. You can keep typing, but you can’t see it. So I wrote up the first paragraph and a half of this on my e61, but then had to switch to my laptop to finish it up. Humpf. Such high hopes I always have, and they get dashed over and over again. Maybe Homer is right, and the best solution is to just stop trying.
