I came across your page during my desperate search to find how to set up my E61 to receive/send email. To the likes of you, I am totally computer illiterate, and it was really a mad idea to get a phone like this, but ... your page was most helpful and now I have my email settings on my E61. So thank you!

Hey, Looking at getting an E61 - I have tmobile, but no Data plan. Would just want to use WiFi for internet as needed, #1 use would be for Gmail, then blogs, etc.

Could I set it up so it was Wifi Only? like an ipod touch - just better :)

Thanks

I don't like using gmail from the web interface or from the gmail java client. I wanted to use POP/SMTP to get my gmail. Here is how I got POP3 gmail to work with the E61's Email Client.

1. Log into your gmail account and change your settings to allow POP3.
2. On your phone, set up a new email account as normal.
3. Set up the incoming/outgoing settings as follows:

Incomming:

User name: The email address you typicall use to log into gmail. I.E. "your username"@gmail.com
Password: The password you typically use to log into gmail
Incoming mail serv.: pop.gmail.com
Access point to use: Your choice
Mailbox name: Your choice, I choose "Gmail"
Mailbox Type: POP3
Security (ports): SSL/TLS
Port: User Defined / 995
APOP secure login: Off

Outgoing:
My email Address: Your gmail email address
Username: Your gmail email address you typically use to login
Password: Your gmail passwork you typicall use to login
Outgoing Mail serv: smtp.gmail.com
Access Point in use: Your choice
Security (ports): SSL/TLS
Port: User Defined / 465

That should get it going. You can customize how mail is stored on gmail from the gmail settings page. You can also set up auto retrieval from the settings on you phone. Just poke around the connection settings on your phone to see all the options. They are pretty self explainitory.

Hi there,

Do you know how to reset an E61 to original NOKIA settings? Just got mine and it's great except my totalitarian network provider has locked out some of the actually very useful features as well as installed its own very annoying and counterintuitive menu system - any ideas - oh I use an apple computer as well so any software hack might have to bear this in mind,
